The Unique and Interesting Facts About Crocodiles

Crocodiles are large reptiles that live in water and on land (amphibians). Scientifically, crocodiles include all species of members of the family Crocodylidae. Crocodiles generally inhabit freshwater habitats such as rivers, lakes, swamps and other wetlands. However, there are also those who live in brackish water such as estuarine crocodiles. The main food of crocodiles is vertebrate animals such as fish, reptiles and mammals. Crocodiles are ancient animals, which have changed little due to evolution since the time of the dinosaurs.

(Crocodile) This name comes from the Greek mention of the crocodile they saw on the Nile, krokodilos; The word formation is rooted in the words kroko, which means 'pebbles', and deilos which means 'worms' or 'people'. They call it 'rock worms' because they observe the habit of crocodiles basking on rocky riverbanks.

Crocodiles prey on fish, birds, mammals, and sometimes other smaller crocodiles and even adult crocodile carcasses. These reptiles are ambush predators; it waits for its prey land animal or fish to approach, then pounces on it suddenly. As cold-blooded animals, these predators can survive long periods without food, and rarely really need to move to hunt their prey. Although apparently slow, crocodiles are the top predators in their environment, and several species have been observed attacking and killing sharks. The exception is the Egyptian plover, which is known to have a symbiotic relationship with crocodiles.
