Synopsis 'The Greatest Showman'
This time I want to write a synopsis of a film that I really like, because of the many characters, funny, many lessons to be learned and much more. Therefore I want to share this synopsis with you, so that you also know and feel what is shown in this film.
In short, the story of the film The Greatest Showman is inspired by the life story of Phineas Taylor Barnum (P.T. Barnum) he is the founder of a famous circus in the USA, Barnum & Bailey Circus, which was founded in 1871 (finally closed in May 2017 yesterday, so if calculated the circus is 146 years old).
This film tells the story that when Barnum was a child, he helped his father as a tailor. From there, he met Charity, who is the daughter of a rich man. Since childhood they have had a crush on each other but what power they finally have to separate because Charity goes to boarding school. But even though they were separated, they still sent letters to each other.
After Barnum's father died, Barnum finally became a homeless person who even had to eat food. Fortunately, as an adult, Barnum already has a steady job which, although mediocre, he was finally able to get up the courage to marry Charity. Of course, without the blessing of Charity's parents.
Barnum and Charity live in a simple apartment and live happily with their 2 children. Unfortunately, the company where Barnum worked went bankrupt and Barnum became unemployed. With modest capital, he borrowed money from a bank and then opened Barnum's American Museum in New York, which contained a collection of strange animal statues, for example the tallest giraffe in the world. But apparently, no one is interested in buying tickets to enter Barnum's museum! so yes definitely fail!
Stressed thinking about the fate of the deserted museum, Barnum's children came up with the idea that people would be more interested if there was a live show. So it's not just the statues that are there!
From there, Barnum had the idea to gather 'weird' people (aka freaks) to make a circus show. From adults with small bodies, bearded women, tallest people, and so on. And yes, it's true that the show is selling well.
The best-selling show did not leave Barnum feeling satisfied. He wants his show to be known by the wider community, including the upper class. He also lobbied Phillip Carlyle, he is the son of a rich man but feels his life is too constrained. By joining Barnum's circus business, Carlyle can become more free. With Carlyle's help, Barnum's circus is brought before the British queen Victoria. Obviously this is an extraordinary achievement that makes their name even more famous.
When in the English court, Barnum meets Jenny Lind, she is a famous opera singer in Europe and Barnum thinks he wants to be a promoter for Jenny. Namely by making a concert in America and it turned out to be a huge success! Barnum became more famous, more successful and richer. He could buy his wife and children a big house like a palace. He could show his success now to his in-laws who used to take Barnum for granted. But of course there are sacrifices. With her growing success, she had to go on Jenny's tour which meant she never saw her family again. Jenny, who is always with Barnum, eventually Jenny has a crush on Barnum. However, Barnum ignored him, which annoyed Jenny.
In the end, the fate of the circus that Barnum left behind was run by Carlyle, even though at that time the circus was a success, but many people did not like the freaks and always protested asking them to disband. However, the problem was soon resolved properly when Barnum returned from a tour with Jenny.
